NO PHONE POLICY: LOCKER ROOMS AND BATHROOMS
The Madison Area YMCA has a No Phone Policy in the locker rooms and bathrooms to comply with state law, preserve privacy, and create a safe, respectful environment.
To ensure the safety, privacy, and comfort of all members, the use of cell phones (calling, texting, photos, video, etc.) and other recording devices is strictly prohibited in the Men’s, Women’s, Boys’, Girls’ and Family locker rooms, including showers, changing areas, and saunas. This policy applies to all members, guests, visitors, and staff.
Here’s why this policy is so important:
- Compliance with State Law N.J.S.A. 2C:14-9:
In the state of New Jersey, recording devices are strictly prohibited in private spaces where individuals have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as locker rooms, restrooms, and changing rooms. Therefore, to comply with state laws, and uphold privacy standards, the Madison Area YMCA enforces a no-phone / no-recording policy in locker rooms and bathrooms. - Protecting Privacy: Locker rooms and bathrooms are private spaces where everyone deserves to feel safe, secure, and respected, free from concerns about cameras or recordings in this shared space.
- Child Safety: This policy creates a secure environment for all members, including families and children, and helps eliminate risks associated with the inappropriate recording or sharing of images involving minors.
- Reducing Risk: A no-phone policy protects all members and our Y from potential risks related to unauthorized recordings or misuse of devices.
- Unauthorized Sharing or Posting:
Even accidental photos or videos taken in locker rooms could be shared on social media or other platforms, potentially violating the privacy of others and causing harm.
We need your help and appreciate your cooperation in helping us uphold these values. Together, we can ensure that our locker rooms remain safe, respectful, and private spaces for all.
Violations of this policy may result in suspension or termination of membership. If you have any questions about this policy, please don’t hesitate to speak with a Y staff member.
