Madison Area YMCA Announces Diabetes Prevention Program;
Ellen Kranefuss Hired as Diabetes Prevention Coordinator

(Madison, NJ) January 30, 2015 –The Madison Area YMCA is pleased to announce that Ellen Kranefuss has joined the Madison Area YMCA as the Diabetes Prevention Coordinator for its new Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). 

86 million Americans have prediabetes; only 10 percent even know they have it. Without changing their lifestyles, 15 to 30 percent of this population will develop Type 2 diabetes within five years.

“We are excited to bring the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program to our staff and community,” said Madison Area YMCA President & CEO Diane Mann. “This is another Y program that fosters health and wellness by providing the tools that people need to achieve these goals.”

At the forefront to combat the disease, the Y’s DPP is a “lifestyle change” program that helps adults at high risk for developing Type 2 diabetes reduce their risk by taking steps that will improve their overall health and well-being. 

”People who are at risk will be empowered,” said Ms. Kranefuss. “They will have the ability to take control and live healthier, stronger lives through the Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program.” 

Ms. Kranefuss has extensive experience in the healthcare field where she worked in hospital administration as a new program developer, marketing manager, clinic operations director and consultant to the healthcare industry. Earlier in her career, she was a speech therapist, working with all age groups in rehabilitation hospitals and with young children in school settings. 

Ms. Kranefuss has been a substitute teacher in the Madison School district and has volunteered in several capacities for the Madison School district’s PTO. She currently serves on Madison’s environmental committee, Sustainable Madison. An avid reader, Ms. Kranefuss has been an adult literacy tutor. In addition, she has a passion for swimming, has coached swimming and participated in local swim-a-thons, swim competitions and triathlons. She enjoys spending family time with her husband and two daughters through traveling, hiking, cooking and playing family games.
