The Madison Area YMCA Starts One Step Program for People Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis
(Madison, NJ) February 11, 2016 –The Madison Area YMCA and the New Jersey Metro Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society have teamed up to offer One Step, a new customized wellness program for adults medically diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
One Step is a 12-week, 24-session course that will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. starting Tuesday, March 15, and Thursday, March 17.
The program provides participants with safe, therapeutic exercises that address issues associated with MS that include fatigue, walking, weakness and depression. Participants are empowered through emotional support and facilitated conversation in a controlled environment. The exercises will address common MS symptoms through guided, modifiable and individualized plans. One Step creates a positive mindset by recognizing “personal improvement” as success.
The One Step curriculum is supported by the National MS Society of New Jersey.
Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis.
