The Madison Area YMCA Hosts Teen Center Open House

(Madison, NJ) April 19, 2016 –The Madison Area YMCA hosted an open house for teens and their families at its Boszhardt Family Teen Center. Florham Park Mayor Mark Taylor attended the event.

Located on the main level of the Y’s Family Center on Kings Road in Madison, the Teen Center is a safe place for teens. The center was made possible through a generous gift from Andrew Boszhardt, a long-time member and benefactor of the Madison Area YMCA.

The Y operates a robust and growing program for area teens and pre-teens. A YMCA-Madison Borough partnership enables Madison teens to participate in after-school and Friday evening Teen Scene programs free of charge. Teens from neighboring communities who are members also participate at no charge. Teens from area communities who are not Y members are welcome to participate and pay a small fee. Seventh graders can also participate in teen programs through the Seventh Grade Initiative, a free special membership.

Teen Programs include Teen Scene and Teen Leaders Club. With space to do homework, comfortable couches and a great place to hang out with friends, the Teen Center features a vintage pinball machine, computers, Wii, X-Box 360, air hockey and foosball.

The Madison Area YMCA also offers Project Community Pride for teens and their families. A youth counseling program that has joined the Y as one of its community-based programs, Project Community Pride is an important extension of youth development services for children, teens and their families throughout the Madison Area YMCA’s service area. The program was made possible through the collaboration of community leaders and the municipalities and school districts of the Chathams, Florham Park and Madison. Services are provided in the schools and at the program’s offices by licensed clinical social workers.

The Madison Area YMCA is a cause-driven charitable organization that believes that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, should be enriched by the YMCA. The Y is dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and believes that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, should be enriched by the YMCA. The Y is inclusive of all people and offers programs and services that develop a healthy mind, body and spirit.
