Madison Area YMCA Summer 2017 Session
(Madison, NJ) – June 2, 2017– Exercise your body, mind and spirit at the Y this summer. Register for Madison Area YMCA Summer 2017 classes that begin on Monday, June 26. Members and non-members welcome.
Priority registration for members begins Tuesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. online and in person. Non-members may register online and in person starting Tuesday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. Members may continue to register online.
Great news! The Y’s new online registration and account management system, ACTIVE Net, is up and running. Just point and click to register and pay for programs, all from your computer, tablet or smartphone. If you are a Madison Area YMCA member, have been a guest or participated in programs during the last two years, your account has been created. Log in to create your password and activate your account by visiting madisonareaymca.org from any device, prior to registration. Click “sign in” located on the homepage. Your email address on file is your login for your new online account. Contact the Welcome Center at 973.822.9622 if you have questions.
The Aquatics department offer 8-week sessions for children starting at 6 months old through 16. Private swim lessons are available for children 3 years old through adult. The Madison Area YMCA swim team, the Mariners, offers a year-round opportunity for competitive swimming in both YMCA and USA Swimming for girls and boys from 6 years old through high school. The aquatics department is offering Super Kids/Special Needs programming: Sunfish for 3-12 year olds. Permission from the Special Needs Coordinator Jenna Zwain is required. The Gymnastics department is offering 8-week sessions for children of all ages. Parent/child classes are available for crawlers. Gymnastics classes for preschoolers through teens are available. Competitive opportunities are available through participation on the Rosettes gymnastics team. Private lessons are also available for members. The Gymnastics department also offers Y Ninja Gym, a structured training program that is based on obstacle course training methodology that includes: strength and conditioning drills, specialty skill development (flips, rolls, jumps and kicks), tumbling, martial arts skills and mindfulness/meditation practices. This program is specifically designed to build coordination, motor control, conditioning, proprioception, body awareness, spatial awareness, agility and physical strength while developing self-confidence, teamwork and discipline. Classes are available for children 3 years old; 4 years old; 5-6 years old; 7-8 years old; 9-10 years old; 11-14 years old.
The Sports department is offering 8-week sessions for children of all ages from preschool through school age in sports including basketball, floor hockey, flag football, football skills, golf, karate, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, speed and agility training, Sports & Games and Fun & Games.
The Madison Area YMCA’s School of Performing Arts is offering 8-week sessions for children starting at 2 years old in a variety of disciplines including ballet, tap, acting, musical theatre, Creative Movement, Kids Choir, Broadway Jazz and Hip Hop. Performing Arts Private Lessons are available. Classes are also available for adults in Ballet Barre and private dance lessons.
Enrichment and family programming at the Y offers classes starting with parent/child classes through school age that include arts & crafts, cooking, Legos, reading, music and more. Classes that incorporate STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) are also available. The Madison Area YMCA hosts birthday parties through most of its departments. Girls can also earn scouting badges. The Y’s Healthy U, in collaboration with Shoprite of Chatham, has an 8-week class for 6-10 year olds called Cooking with Shoprite of Chatham and Healthy U. Shoprite of Chatham’s Registered Dietitian Jenn will lead a hands-on basic cooking class to get your child excited about healthy eating and cooking. Other new classes include Improv Art for 6-8 year olds), Muffins & Milkshakes (parent/child), Mommy & Me Tea Party and Daddy & Me Pizza Party.
Saturday evening family programming features a different theme for family entertainment and an opportunity to spend quality time together. Activities include swimming and open gym. Kids Central, the Y’s indoor playground is available for open play. Select Saturday evenings are movie nights—free to members; $5 charge for non-members. Kids Central offers babysitting services for children starting at 3 months old. The Zone, the Madison Area YMCA’s tween area for children ages 8 through 11, has games, books, Xbox, Kinect, rock wall climbing and more! Drop-off programs are also available that allow parents to drop off their children and leave the facility for an extended period of time—must book a reservation in advance.

The Madison Area YMCA’s Teen Advisory Council provides service-learning opportunities to teens and develops teens into effective leaders who are equipped to make challenging decisions. Council members are tasked with creating additional teen programming at the Madison Area YMCA, including recreational events, healthy living classes and college preparedness seminars. Members attend monthly meetings, complete a minimum of 100 hours of service over the school year. To be considered for an interview to become part of the Teen Advisory Council, teens must fill out an application and provide three letters of recommendation. Summer Mini Clinics during June, July and August offerings: Y Ninja and gymnastics. In the School of Performing Arts: Hip Hop/Musical Theatre, Fun Dance & Theatre, Ballet & Tap. School Age Mini Clinic offerings: Hip Hop/Breakdance workshop, Acting for Film & Television workshop, Triple Threat Performance workshop, Cheerleading workshop, Hip Hop/Musical Theatre workshop, Lyrical Dance workshop. In the Sports department: Preschool Sports Camp. School Age Sports Mini Clinics include: Basketball, Floor Hockey, Football, Martial Arts Adventure, Soccer, Sports & Games, Girls Basketball.
Adult offerings also include: Men’s Basketball, Table Tennis and karate, small group training, TRX, Flex and Press with Sam and Build and Burn with Patti. Do a quick workout during lunch! “Lunchtime Express” is offered Monday through Thursday at 12:15 p.m. for 30-minutes. See www.madisonymca.org for the full schedule.
