“Celebrating Our Community Week” at the Madison Area YMCA and F.M. Kirby Children’s Center: September 15-24
(Madison, NJ) – September 1, 2017— “Celebrating Our Community Week” at the Madison Area YMCA and the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center will take place Friday, Sept. 15, through Sunday, Sept. 24.
As a community hub, the Y will host activities and events during the week to celebrate our community and make it stronger. It is a chance for neighbors to get to know one another and celebrate what unites them as a community.
If you are not a member, visit the Madison Area YMCA Family Center for a free week during “Celebrating Our Community Week.” There are no guest fees. If you join the Y during that week, Sept. 15 through Sept. 24, the Y will waive your initiation fee. The day will have lots of fun activities for the whole family. Bring a friend!
During this week, please visit Short Stories on Main Street to see the store’s window display that will depict the Y’s “Celebrating Our Community.” Also, visit the Y’s lobby to learn more about volunteering opportunities.
The week will have lots of activities to participate in:
Let everyone know where you’re from! Visit the Y’s Family Center lobby and put a sticker on the worldwide map. The F.M. Kirby Children’s Center will celebrate with flags of all nations on display in the building.
Shop at Whole Foods on Main Street in Madison on Thursday, September 14, to benefit the Madison Area YMCA. It is a 5% Give Back Day!
On Saturday, September 16, the Y’s Togetherhood committee will hold a volunteer day from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Moms Helping Moms warehouse in North Plainfield. The Y invites the community to donate baby items such as diapers, wipes. A collection bin is located in the Y’s lobby.
On Friday, September 22, volunteers from M&T Bank, will participate in the D.E.A.R. program (Drop Everything and Read) by reading books about the importance of community to the children of the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center.
Also, on Friday, September 22, from 6p.m. to 8 p.m., the Gay Straight Alliance of Madison High School and Chatham High School will hold an event at Short Stories.
The Y will host a blood drive on Friday, September 22.
Join the Y for a S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Community Night: International Potluck on Saturday, September 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free event will celebrate community through sharing food, music and crafts from multiple countries. Bring family, friends, a dish and the recipe! Please register by Wednesday, September 20.
The Y will hold an American Girl Tea Party on Sunday, September 24, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Register at the Welcome Center.
