Free Lecture at the Madison Area YMCA: “Martial Arts in America”
(Madison, NJ) – May 25, 2018—The community is invited to a free public forum “Martial Arts in America,” to be given by Shifu Hayashi Tomio on Wed., June 13, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Madison Area YMCA’s Family Center in the Kroll Conference Room.
Shifu Hayashi Tomio, author, Buddhist monk, 8th degree black belt and career teacher will give an informal talk about the martial arts in the U.S. focusing on the training values and goals of different martial systems as well as Ki cultivation in the Buddhist Mindfulness tradition. Hayashi will give insight into the esoteric healing practices and practical fitness, self–protective and meditative merits to martial practice.
Hayashi is an author of seven martial arts books and a frequent contributor to the national martial art community. He has studied Okinawan Karate, Aikido, Tai Chi, Kobudo, Esoteric Monastic Kempo and is an expert in Kiko the Okinawan equivalent of Chinese Chi Kung. Practitioners of isshinryu karate should be particularly interested as Hayashi has nearly fifty years of experience in Okinawan karate study.
All attendees will receive an autographed copy of his young adult self-defense book Smart Moves: A Kid’s Guide to Self Defense.
Hayashi will answer questions about the YMCA’s nearly 40-year-long martial arts program which he overees. He will also discuss a new summer grogram SAFE-VITAL-AWARE that will address the needs of young women and self-awareness and protection.
Free registration online for members and non-members. The lecture is designed for those 16 and older.
