Mary Schaenen and Cali Williams Yost
Join the Madison Area YMCA Board of Directors
(Madison, NJ) – May 21, 2019–The Madison Area YMCA is pleased to announce that Madison residents Mary Schaenen and Cali Williams Yost have joined its Board of Directors, effective immediately.
“We are delighted to welcome Mary and Cali to the Board,” said Madison Area YMCA President & CEO Diane Mann. “We look forward to working with Mary and Cali and are confident that they will enhance the quality leadership that is characteristic of all of our Board members.”

Mary Schaenen and her family moved to Madison in 2004 after living overseas for 10 years. She served as a board member for Madison’s Red Cross Chapter from 2005 – 2010, taking the position of Marketing and Communications Manager in 2007 after the chapter merged with Summit. She continued her community involvement with the Madison School District, volunteering on several committees at Torey J. Sabatini, Madison Junior School and Madison High School.
Mary served as a trustee of the Madison Education Foundation from 2010 – 2017 serving four years as co-president. She has volunteered for Grace Episcopal Church and is a member of Impact 100 Garden State and recently raised a guide dog for The Seeing Eye. Mary started her career in public relations, specializing in healthcare, and continued to work as a healthcare writer while living overseas. She is married to Doug Schaenen, a managing director at BNY Mellon Wealth Management. They have two children in college, Malcolm and Claire, and their son Stuart is a senior at Madison High School.
The founder and principal of Flex+Strategy Group, Cali Williams Yost is a workplace strategist, researcher, author and speaker who is recognized as a leading thinker on work, life and flexibility. For more than two decades, Cali has studied and changed the way business leaders and employees think about how, when and where we work.
She has assisted hundreds of organizations, including Con Edison, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Quest Diagnostics and BDO USA, in creating high performing flexible work cultures that strategically use flexibility, technology and workplace options to work smarter, and attract and retain top talent. Along the way, she’s helped thousands of individuals to take control of their work-life to find success on and off the job. Cali has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today, appeared several times on The Today Show and been a guest on CNBC, Bloomberg TV and NPR. She has also presented at Stanford University, The United Nations and for the Singapore government.
Cali is the author of Tweak It: Make What Matters to You Happen Every Day, (Center Street/Hachette, 2013), and Work+Life; Finding the Fit That’s Right for You(Riverhead/Penguin Group, 2004). A former commercial banker, Cali is a graduate of Columbia Business School. With her husband Andy Yost, she is the mother of two daughters, one in college and the other a senior at Madison High School. Notably, Cali is also the great, great, great niece of YMCA founder George Williams.
