Madison Area YMCA Family Center Prepares to Reopen:
Expanded Fitness Center and Outdoor Group Exercise Classes

Madison Area YMCA Expanded Fitness Space

Caption: To prepare for re-opening, the Madison Area YMCA Family Center on King’s Road in Madison has fully converted a multi-purpose room as an auxiliary Fitness Center to house and properly space circuit equipment, creating room in the main Fitness Center for cardio equipment to be spaced six feet apart.

(Madison, NJ) – June 19, 2020- At the Madison Area YMCA, we are excited to invite our members to participate in our Members-Only Outdoor Group Exercise classes beginning June 27! In accordance with Governor Murphy's executive order allowing outdoor fitness classes, and in conjunction with local health authorities, we have been working to bring our Y family back together with everyone's health and safety as our priority. Registration only classes begin Saturday, June 20 on the Keep Street lawn at the Madison Area YMCA and on local partnering fields in Madison.

Indoors, staff have been hard at work getting ready to reopen the Family Center! Upgrades include plexiglass partitions, hand washing stations, touch-free faucets, bottle filler stations, motion-activated hand sanitizer dispensers, disinfecting wipes dispensers, directional and cleanliness protocol signage, and foot mechanism door openers to help our members and staff avoid high-touch surfaces.

We continue to follow directives from the State and are eager to open our doors as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we have expanded and reconfigured our spaces, including the Fitness Center. Much of our fitness equipment has been relocated to expand across two levels to allow for our members to use our equipment while being appropriately and safely distanced.

Health and Wellness Director Christian Esola shares, "We have made many enhancements to our Fitness Center and Wellness Studios to ensure appropriate distancing. Expanding to two levels has allowed us to keep the overwhelming majority of our equipment fully available while spaced a minimum of six feet apart. We converted a multi-purpose room to auxiliary fitness space for our circuit. The free weight area has been additionally spaced. Expanded cleaning and sanitizing procedures are in place to ensure the safety of all our members and staff. We believe our members will be extremely satisfied with our “new look”. We can't wait to welcome everyone back indoors."

As we prepare for this facility reopening, our members continuing to lead a healthy lifestyle is important to us. Keep moving and stay connected to the Y by visiting www.madisonareaymca.org/YMCALive. Join our livestreaming Group Exercise classes with some of your favorite instructors seven days a week.
