The Madison Area YMCA Rosettes Gymnastics Team earned first place at the YUSA National Gymnastics Championship competition

July 23, 2024

The Rosettes repeated as first-place overall National Champions in the Xcel Diamond Division, competing against 11 other teams. The Rosettes also repeated as first-place overall National Champions in the Xcel Platinum Division, competing against 21 other teams. With 48 gymnasts competing, the Rosettes displayed their talent across various levels, securing an impressive collection of titles and rankings.

"We are thrilled that our gymnasts, under the experienced leadership of Director Christina Lopez, demonstrated all that is best in athletic competition: teamwork, focus and skill," said YMCA CEO Diane Mann. She congratulated Ms. Lopez and the gymnasts, as well as the coaching team who work with the Rosettes team on a daily basis: Rosettes Head Coach Sergio Estrada, Associate Director Jackie Morris-Estrada, and coaches Amanda Zurawski, Hope Fenyohazi, Ciara Hunt, Jocelyn DeNichilo, Kristin Durning and Katie Oliver. "We are proud of our gymnasts' sportsmanship, dedication, hard work and integrity." Mann said.

This year the Rosettes earned first-place National Champions in individual competitions (bars, horse, beam or floor) in the Xcel Gold Division against six other teams, and first-place individual National Champions in the Xcel Silver Division against five other teams. Nine of our individual gymnasts took first place in all-around performance in their divisions and age groups, and many more scored in the top three for individual events.
“The Rosettes had a fantastic year in 2023, and there was a little bit of pressure for 2024. We went in positive and with an open-mind knowing that the skill-level was there. Gymnastics is no longer simply a physical sport; emotional and mental health is key,” said Gymnastics Director Christina Lopez. “The coaching team drives the Y mission throughout training. The Rosettes are truly a team effort, and we are super proud of everyone going into the competition and doing their personal best.”
Since its debut in 1938, this YMCA national competition has celebrated the achievements of outstanding young gymnasts ages 6–20 years old. This year’s event brought more than 4,000 gymnasts, family members, and coaches from more than 75 YMCAs nationwide to the Philadelphia area.

"We are immensely proud of the Rosettes team and coaches. Their impressive national recognition is just one aspect of their success; the incredible camaraderie they demonstrate both on and off the mat is truly commendable," said Vice President of Programs & Advancement Kim Buccheri. "These gymnasts genuinely care for and support one another, embodying the positive energy and community spirit their coaches have cultivated alongside their exceptional skill level."
