Prepare Your Child Now for Water Safety this Summer at the Madison Area YMCA

(Madison, NJ) – February 12, 2018 –Prepare your child for safety in and around the water this summer by signing up for swimming classes today at the Madison Area YMCA.

“Swimming not only saves lives, it builds confidence and encourages lifelong healthy living,” said Madison Area YMCA Aquatics Director Lisa Shannon.

Teaching children how to swim and be safe around water is one of the most important life skills parents can help their children learn. Research shows that participation in formal water safety and swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children 1 to 4 years of age. Drowning poses a threat to the health and well-being of people nationwide, particularly among children and minority populations. Two children die every day because of drowning. It is the leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 years old and is the second leading cause of death for children from 5 to 14 years old.

Members and non-members may register children starting at 6 months old through 16 for swimming classes at www.madisonareaymca.org or in person at the Family Center, located at 111 Kings Road. Private swim lessons are available also for children starting at 3 years old. For more information about swimming lessons, please call Madison Area YMCA Aquatics Director Lisa Shannon 973-822-9622 x2230.
