Madison Area YMCA Welcomes Ed Stoner, Ed.D., as Vice President of Advancement & Strategic Initiatives

December 16, 2024- Following a comprehensive three-month search and interview process, the Madison Area YMCA is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Ed Stoner as Vice President of Advancement & Strategic Initiatives. Dr. Stoner, an accomplished education and philanthropy executive, brings extensive experience in philanthropy, academics, and strategic leadership to this newly created role.
Most recently serving as an advancement executive at Temple University in Philadelphia, Dr. Stoner now oversees a newly structured area within the YMCA that includes Development, Marketing & Communications, Project Community Pride Youth and Teen counseling program, and the Madison Chatham Coalition. In alignment with the Madison Area YMCA’s strategic plan, Dr. Stoner will also lead the development and implementation of key initiatives, such as the upcoming community needs assessment this winter.

Dr. Stoner officially joined the Madison Area YMCA team on Monday, December 2, 2024. His leadership is expected to further enhance the Y’s impact on the community, particularly through innovative strategic initiatives and expanded philanthropic efforts.
Dr. Stoner earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech, a master’s degree from Ohio University, and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from the University of Delaware. Before joining the Madison Area YMCA, Dr. Stoner led the athletic fundraising team and managed the integration of strategic communications, media relations, and digital media operations at Temple University in Philadelphia. From 2008 to 2017, he served as Athletic Director at Multnomah Athletic Club, providing strategic vision, executive leadership, and fiscal oversight while driving organizational growth and success.
With a strong dedication to healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development, Dr. Stoner served on numerous boards including Rotary International (Lowell, MA) and Smile Oregon (Portland), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support, awareness, and education to help families on the journey of parenting a child with a cleft or craniofacial condition.
Dr. Stoner is residing in Florham Park. He and his wife, Elyse, have two adult sons who share their commitment to community and leadership.
