Register for the Madison Area YMCA’s Winter 2018 Session and Summer 2018 Camp 

(Madison, NJ) – January 9, 2018 – Do More. Be More. Exercise your body, mind and spirit. Register for Madison Area YMCA Winter Session 2018 classes that begin on Monday, January 29. And Make Waves! Register for the Madison Area YMCA’s summer full day camp for children entering kindergarten through 11th grade. Camp begins on Monday, June 25.  

Members and non-members are welcome to register for winter session classes and summer camp online at www.madisonareaymca.org or in person at the Family Center, located at 111 Kings Road, or in person at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center, located at 54 East Street. Priority member registration begins Tuesday, January 16, at 7:30 p.m. Registration for members is on-going, both online and in person. Open registration, both online and in person, starts Tuesday, January 23, at 7:30 p.m.  

Winter session offerings include: The Aquatics department is offering 20-week sessions for children starting at 6 months old through 16. Private swim lessons are available for children 3 years old through adult. The Madison Area YMCA swim team, the Mariners, offers a year-round opportunity for competitive swimming in both YMCA and USA Swimming for girls and boys from 6 years old through high school.  

The Gymnastics department is offering 20-week sessions for children of all ages. Parent/child classes are available for crawlers. Gymnastics classes for preschoolers through teens are available. Competitive opportunities are available through participation on the Rosettes gymnastics team. Y Ninja Gym classes are available for toddlers through adults, regardless of skill level. This structured program is based on obstacle course training methodology, including strength and conditioning drills, specialty skill development, tumbling and mindfulness/mediation practices. The children’s session is 20 weeks. The new Adult session is 7 weeks.    

The Sports department is offering 10-week sessions for children of all ages from preschool through school age in sports including basketball, advanced basketball, floor hockey, karate, kinder karate, lacrosse, golf, soccer, indoor soccer, t-ball, tennis, flag football, strength and athlete training, and pee wee agility training. Y-Winners classes are available in basketball.  

The Performing Arts department is offering 20-week sessions for children starting at 2 years old in a variety of disciplines from tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop and Irish dance to musical theatre, singing, acting and improvisation. Students enrolled prior to February 17, are invited to participate in the Year-End Performance at the Annunciation Center at the College of St. Elizabeth on June 2. There is a required costume form and fee required to participate. 

Enrichment and Family programming at the Y includes classes starting with parent/child classes through school age in a variety of subject matter including STEM, the newest addition. STEM classes for toddlers through 12 year olds include Mad About Math, Build with Me, Math Mania, Little Lab Coats, Learning Laboratory, Adventure LEGO® and LEGO® Mindstorms Madness. Classes are offered in other subject matter including: arts & crafts, cooking, reading music, Healthy U and more. The Madison Area YMCA hosts birthday parties through most of its departments. Girls can also earn scouting badges. 

Summer Camp 2018
Camp Wantago, for children entering kindergarten through 2nd grade, is held at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ten-weekly sessions are offered from June 25 through August 30. Camp Wantago offers field trips twice per week, games, and time for learning and building friendships. Twice per week, campers visit the Family Center for swim time supervised by trained lifeguards and instructors. Each week features a new theme and includes S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities. A nutritious lunch and snack are provided for all campers. 

Camp KidsQuest, for children entering 3rd through 5th grade, is held at the Family Center Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ten-weekly sessions are offered from June 25 through August 30. Camp KidsQuest campers will gain independence by choosing their own activities and learn about the Y’s Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility in smaller age-based groups every day. They will participate in sports, gymnastics, Y Ninja Gym, arts & crafts and cooking. Campers have the option of learning robotics and building with LEGO® Mindstorms kits.  Instructional and recreational swim, a campfire, camp-wide games and field trips will complete each week.  A nutritious lunch and snack are provided for all campers. 

Camp SummerQuest is a teen travel camp held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for teens and pre-teens entering 6th through 10th grades. Nine weekly sessions are offered from June 25 through August 24. SummerQuest offers different weekly themes that expose teens to positive developmental growth, decision-making, social responsibility and independence. Three overnight trips are planned throughout the summer where campers will learn teambuilding skills, practice independence and explore outdoor activities. SummerQuest Extended Day: Campers enjoy a Wednesday campfire and dinner back at the Madison Area YMCA’s camp area on weeks that do not include an overnight.

The Leader in Training (LIT) program gives teens entering 10th and 11th grades hands-on experience working directly with campers and staff in Camp KidsQuest at the Family Center. Through leadership-oriented teambuilding, meaningful community service projects and staff-led mentoring, the Leader in Training program will leave teens feeling fulfilled and confident by the end of the summer. Four 2-week sessions (June 25-August 17) are held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. are offered with lunch included. 

Camp is not in session on Wednesday, July 4. Before Care (7-9 a.m.) and After Care (4-6p.m.) is available at no additional charge. For Camp Wantago families, extended after-care from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. is available for an additional fee. Financial assistance is available for families who may not be able to afford the full price of camp.
